The WHY Behind Food Safety

The WHY Behind Food Safety shares the stories of two young women, and how their lives were forever changed by E. coli.



In 2006, there was an E. coli outbreak associated with fresh spinach, reported in 26 states. Of the 199 people who got sick, 102 of them were hospitalized.

Co-produced by the California Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement (LGMA) and Stop Foodborne Illness, The WHY Behind Food Safety shares the stories of two young women, and how their lives were forever changed by E. coli.

Created for use in food safety training for California farm workers, The WHY Behind Food Safety is a great tool for illustrating the importance of every step from farm to fork — making food safe for everybody.
